Did you know that corn is used to make yarn? While here in the high plains of Colorado, I love to see the corn fields. I don’t think this corn is destined to make yarn (this is basically cattle country and so the corn is used for feed), but it does make me think of yarn, lol.
So for the August KAL, I thought it would be fun to do a stitch pattern that resembles corn. If you can find yarn that is made from corn (or happen to have some on hand), all the better. But if not, that is ok — there are so many fibers available these days for summertime wearing, e.g. cotton, tencel, rayon.
Lacy Maizy August KAL
For August’s project KAL, the Lacy Maizy Wrap features crisp outlines of cable stitches against a lace background. This wrap is named after the semblance of ears of corn in the stitch design as well as the corn fiber yarn in which I originally knitted the sample model shown here.

The cables are carried out to each edge of the wrap, preserving the overall flow of the curving lines. Normally I would not do fringe on a scarf, but this one called for it – I sort of imagined that the long oval shapes that frame the lace eyelets are like ears of corn, and the fringe is like the corn silk of the tassel.

it is still summer here in Lakeland with temperatures in the high nineties with a feels like temperature of over 100 degrees. The only knitting I have been doing is a baby blanket for my daughter-in-law, she is giving it to a friend of hers who had a premature little girl recently. Then when I get that finished I get to start working on some baby items for my daughter-in-law who is due in late March . She is having baby boy.So my knitting for the next few months is all planned .

Do you print any extra KAL instructions, or are they all included in the printed pattern? Your pattern is perfect for some hemp/+ yarn I have, so I am eager to start the scarf. What does “woops cast on” mean……. maybe I haven’t found everything you offer on your Web site?

Your hemp yarn sounds perfect for this. Both hemp and corn yarn is cellulosic (i.e. made from plant fibers). Nice choice.
Re. the mention of “oops” cast on in the post about starting the KAL, I was just being silly about the play on words “corn on” vs. “cast on”.
