This preemie hat is simply knit flat back and forth on 2 needles. What is clever is in the finishing, where the seam is sewn to mimic the herringbone lace stitch, and thus appears to be "seamless". The pattern reveals the secret that makes this work. Your knitting friends won't believe that you didn't knit this hat circularly!

Here’s an easy circular center start method that begins on just 2 needles. It might feel like cheating, but will still produce a neat, tidy center. (Available free to Premium members here.)

High quality Japanese glass seed beads (a.k.a. round rocailles) by Miyuki in size 11/0 (2 mm diameter). Use this size bead for stringing on lace weight yarns and fine threads like size 8 perle cotton, size 10 crochet thread, and size 5/2 tencel thread or finer.

Beads are packaged in clear zip-top bags for easy handling; no tubes to roll around or tops popping off and spilling beads. Approximately 1550 - 1650 per 15g bag unless otherwise noted (mixes come in smaller 12g bags).

Yarn is Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock, a hand-dyed soft and durable fingering weight yarn in 80% superwash wool/20% nylon yarn. Comes in a 2 ounce skein of 215 yards.

Beads are not included in the scarf pattern, but if you want to add a bit of sparkle with Miyuki beads, possible suggestions are #277 Green-lined Crystal AB and #269 Ice Blue-lined Crystal AB
