Results of I Hate to Purl Poll

Although I did throw a few purl stitches in the lace edging of the Pretty Awesome Yarn Pouch to help control the edge from curling, it looks like not too many people will hate me for it.

I Hate to Purl Poll Results

Poll Results

Here are the results of the poll I posted 15 days ago.

Of the 751 who voted (only about 20% of our members), 36 said “I hate to purl”. Interestingly, it was almost a tie-break with the number who said “I love to purl” (34).

40% of the responders (307) preferred to knit over purling. I am thinking you must loving making the Pretty Awesome Yarn Pouch. Am I right?

For the slight majority of you who like to both knit and purl equally, you should be very happy with next month’s project where we’ll be giving about equal time to knitting and purling.

p.s. The poll for What bead color do you like with this yarn? is still open through noon on Monday, March 25. Have you voted? We’ve got a close tie going between 2 of the 3 colors!

Upload a Profile Image in your Member Profile

Remember to update your Member Profile at KnitHeartStrings for the new Birthday Month and Ravelry ID fields. I’ve got some fun stuff in store for you if you do.

And while you are updating Member Profile, feel free to upload a picture for your Profile Image. It makes it a lot more fun to see each other rather than a gray ghost, don’t you think?

I apologize if you tried to upload a profile image in the past few days. Thanks to Ray in CA for bringing this to my attention this morning. I immediately got to looking around and discovered I inadvertently made a change in the system settings that turned the Upload function off. The Upload button is there now, though!

Part 2 of Knitting the Lace Edging of Pretty Awesome Yarn Pouch

Let’s continue going through the rest of the Lace Edging section of Pretty Awesome Yarn Pouch. Part 1 has already covered through round 6. In this Part 2 article we will begin with round 7.

 crossed-knitting-needlesShifting the Round

In round 7, we encounter something you will likely see quite often in lace knitting. Sometimes a decrease occurring at the beginning or end of a stitch multiple needs to incorporate a stitch that is before or after the adjacent stitch multiple. This requires the round to shift either right or left so that the pattern stays properly aligned.

This cdd at beginning of stitch multiple requires the round to shift one stitch to right

The round needs to shift to keep the pattern aligned

In round 7, we have the situation where the round needs to shift one stitch to the right. This is because the central double decrease (cdd) at the beginning of the stitch multiple needs to incorporate the neighboring stitch in the previous multiple.

Knitting the Lace Edging of Pretty Awesome Yarn Pouch – Part 1

There is lots going on in the little lace edging that starts Pretty Awesome Yarn Pouch. This bit-size project is packed with opportunities to learn something new, or re-discover something you hadn’t seen in a while.

Here is a run-through of some of the interesting points I wanted to share. To not overwhelm you with all of them in a single article post, I am going to split the discussion of knitting the lace edging into 2 parts. This Part 1 will cover through round 6. Continue reading

Prize Pack Drawing – Please Help Choose Bead Color

First I need YOUR help in choosing which color beads to put in this month’s Prize Pack. I’ve come down to these 3. Can you please help?

Possible bead color choices for a yarn

[poll id=”4″]

I know monitor colors are not accurate. And it oftentimes DOES make a difference in what the combination of bead and yarn looks like then the yarn is going through the bead (especially when the bead is transparent or semi-transparent). But take your best shot — it’s just for fun. There’s no right answer, otherwise I would have already chosen, lol.

Now for the Prize Pack to be given out at the end of month — It will contain all these delightful goodies to make another Pretty Awesome Yarn Pouch:

1) Crystal Palace Panda Silk in color 3035 Light Periwinkle

2) Beads in color to be determined by the poll results above

3) Satin ribbon for the drawstrings

4) Tiny crochet hook to use with the beads

5) A pretty awesome beaded stitch marker

6) Printed pattern signed by yours truly (I don’t know if that makes it more valuable, but ya’ never know if I get really famous, lol)

How would you like to win all that? Order anything from the KnitHeartStrings Store before March 31, 2013, and you will get an entry into the drawing. For Premium Level members, you automatically get an entry, so you will get an additional entry if you order.

The random drawing  will be held on March 31, 2103 and announced shortly afterwards. Winner will be contacted by email and I will get your shipping address then. Good luck to everyone!

p.s. Even if you are not entering the Prize Pack giveaway, please do vote in the poll above so we can get a good tally of the group’s preferences. Thanks!
